I was reading our local Community Paper last night and was shocked to read an excert claiming Cyber Bullying in our suburb was a growing problem in our State Schools.
Cyber Bullying if you don’t know, is the use of mobile phone, internet and chat service in particular to bully and harass and intimidate vulnerable kids and teachers by bullies. They use the the protection of the internet to remaim anonymous while they attack a child or adult with verbal or written text messages threatening to hurt them or spead rumours which are not true, but while cause the child or adult to feel bad about tyhemselves.
Some of these attacks are so severe, they cause long term problems, with some of the most severe attacks particularly with teenages, contributing to suicide.
Earlier this week I wrote an article called “50 years of the ABC”. It highlighted a trend within our younger generation of violence, especially towards other teenages. Cyber Bullying as just another violent act targeting vulnerable people especially on the net and mobile phone users. State Schools have noticed a growing trend in pupils becoming more violent, in particular over the internet and text messaging. Read the rest of this entry »

It was Saturday the 4th of November 2006 and my fiance and I were having a coffee at a well know coffee house not far from were we live. Starbucks is world famous for coffee and new shop had opened up and we were keen to give it a try.
Now before I go on and tell you why we will never go back there again, please let me explain that the staff themselves gave us the sort of service we wanted, smiles and hello’s is what we expected and thats exactly what we got.
Lisa and I visit coffee shops regularly and we both regard ourselves as yuppies or toffs just because we like a great cup of coffee. No we are both addicted to the buzz and enjoyment you get from a delicious cuppa.
Starbucks, you would expect would have a decor well researched to give their clients the atmosphere of culture, sufictication and a lay back modern mood. Extremely clean and mood enhacing by a better than plain selection of piped music. 10/10 for the decor, but 3/10 for the cleanliness and 3/10 for the music. Read the rest of this entry »

I watched the ABC tonight and they were showing a program called 50 years of Televison and being a child of the 60’s, I was moved to see stories I grew up with. From Cyclone Tracy blowing Darwin into the Timor Sea on Christmas eve of 1974 to Aboriginal Rights and the change over of pounds, shillings and pence.
Geez I feel old. I was born in the year of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games and I have lived through the Vietnam War, Fauklands War, Desert Storm, 911, Pakistan and now the War in Iraq. What makes men justify such horror?
911 was one of the most horrific things I have ever witnessed in my life. Each and every night, news broadcasters broadcast more and more stories stained in blood and pain. But one of the most traumatic stories that shook me to the core, was aired on A Current affair a few weeks ago. I think it was called “Happy Slapping”.

Nothing gets me more pissed off than seeing people blatantly flaunt the laws relating to Water restrictions.
A Current Affair presented a story the other night, highlighting the downright arogance of some Australians during the current drought. Each State has imposed their own water restrictions, but some Australians are saying “stuff you! I’ll do exactly what I want and if I want to hose my house down, or wash my car in the driveway, I will”.
Tagged with the title Water Rats, these people just don’t give a dam and should be penalised and brought to justice. But as was highlighted on the Current Affair feature, nothing can be done, unless these people are caught red handed by the authorities. What The! Sydney Water had a home video of this bloke squirting his house down and still said they needed proof. A Current Affair repoter Simon Bouda offered Sydney Water their tape which would have been time coded for evidence, but still they said they needed to catch the Water Rat red handed.
